Labour markets: participation, employment and informality
Labour force participation, the employment-to-population ratio, unemployment and the share of employment that is informal, for both sexes and all ages together. ILO modelled estimates, so every country has a value for every year.
Annual — Labour force participation rate (ILO modelled estimates) — Total — 15+
Definitions and method
These are modelled estimates, not measurements. The ILO fills gaps between labour force surveys with a model, which is why coverage looks complete where the underlying surveys are not — the same caution that applies to the World Bank's net migration series. Informality is the series worth reading first: in much of the world most work is informal, and an unemployment rate computed against a formal labour market describes a small part of how people actually earn.
