Trade network measures - gross against value added
The same countries, the same years, measured twice - once on the network of gross exports and once on the network of domestic value added. Strength, partner count, concentration and the largest partner's share for each, plus the ratio between them. A country whose two numbers diverge is one that ships a great deal it did not make.
Definitions and method
Computed in app/services/network.py from the two FIGARO datasets on this site, not downloaded. Nodes are countries, edges are bilateral flows for one year. Self-loops are dropped and every area recorded as an aggregate is excluded - FIGARO reports TOTAL and NEU27_2020 as partners beside individual countries, and leaving them in makes every country's largest partner come out as "TOTAL" at forty per cent. out_degree counts partners taking at least 1 per cent of exports; that threshold changes the number and is stated for exactly that reason. HHI is the sum of squared partner shares, 0 to 10,000. va_share_of_gross converts thousands to millions before dividing, because the two source tables are published in different units. Centrality measures are deliberately absent - see the dataset notes.
